white ribbon
Anti-violence campaign emblem
A white ribbon is a loop of white fabric worn as a symbol of awareness or solidarity, most commonly associated with campaigns against domestic violence and violence against women.
The symbol originated in Canada in 1991 following the Montreal Massacre.
White ribbons also appear in other contexts—awareness of lung cancer, safe motherhood, or peace movements—depending on the campaign.
