wellness checks
Are you okay?
Wellness checks are visits by police or other officials to someone's home to verify they're safe, typically requested by concerned family or friends who can't reach the person.
The term has acquired an ironic edge, as such checks sometimes escalate into violent encounters: They called for a wellness check and the cops shot him.
In gentler contexts, wellness checks are routine health assessments in medical or workplace settings.
