watered silk
Wavelike patterned textile
Watered silk is fabric treated to produce a wavelike pattern of light and dark, resembling ripples on water.
The effect, called moiré, comes from pressing the fabric under heat and pressure.
The term applies both to the material and its characteristic shimmering appearance: a gown of watered silk, curtains with a watered silk finish.
