water fleas
Microscopic pond zooplankton
Water fleas are tiny freshwater crustaceans that move through water with jerky, hopping motions resembling flea jumps.
The most common genus is Daphnia, widely used in aquariums as fish food and in laboratories for biological research.
Despite the name, they're not related to actual fleas.
