wassailing
Door-to-door carols
Wassailing is the act of going door to door singing carols and offering good wishes, traditionally during the Christmas season.
The custom often involves sharing a warm spiced drink from a communal bowl.
In older English tradition, wassailing also meant visiting orchards to sing to apple trees, supposedly ensuring a good harvest: The villagers went wassailing on Twelfth Night.
