washboarding
Scrubbing on ridges
Washboarding describes a road surface pattern of parallel ridges and grooves, resembling an old-fashioned washboard.
Unpaved roads develop this corrugation from repeated vehicle traffic: The dirt road was so washboarded we could barely keep control.
The term also applies to the rippled texture that forms on skis or snowboards, or to a laundry technique using a washboard.
