warg

Goblin cavalry beast

A warg is a large, evil wolf in fantasy literature, particularly in Tolkien's works and the gaming worlds influenced by them.

Wargs are typically depicted as intelligent, malevolent creatures often ridden by orcs or goblins: The riders mounted their wargs and gave chase.

In Norse mythology, the source of Tolkien's borrowing, warg (or vargr) referred to wolves, especially monstrous ones like Fenrir.
