walleyed

Gaze pointing sideways

Walleyed describes eyes that diverge outward, showing an unusual amount of white—the opposite of cross-eyed.

The term comes from the pale, cloudy appearance such eyes can have.

A walleye is also a popular North American game fish, named for its distinctive large, reflective eyes.

Figuratively, walleyed can mean wild-eyed or staring: He gave me a walleyed look of disbelief.
