walking foot
Dual-feed sewing mechanism
A walking foot is a sewing machine attachment with feed dogs that grip fabric from above while the machine's built-in feed dogs move it from below.
This synchronized motion prevents layers from shifting or puckering, essential when working with quilts, leather, vinyl, or slippery fabrics: You'll need a walking foot for that velvet.
Also called an even-feed foot.
