wagon trains
Westward settler caravans
Wagon trains were convoys of covered wagons that traveled together across long distances, especially during the westward expansion of the United States in the 19th century.
Settlers heading to California, Oregon, or other frontier territories formed wagon trains for mutual protection and assistance on the journey: The wagon train crossed the plains over several months.
The term evokes pioneer migration and appears frequently in Western films and novels.
