voluted

Curled like shells

Voluted describes something having or shaped like a volute—a spiral or scroll-shaped form.

The term appears most often in architecture, describing columns with spiral ornaments at the capital: voluted Ionic columns.

It also applies in natural history to shells with spiral whorls: the voluted chambers of a nautilus.
