volcanic plateau
Elevated magmatic terrain
A volcanic plateau is a broad, elevated landform created by extensive volcanic activity—typically successive lava flows that spread and harden in layers over time.
Unlike volcanic cones or peaks, plateaus are relatively flat on top: The Columbia Plateau in the Pacific Northwest formed from massive basalt floods.
Some of Earth's largest plateaus, including the Deccan Plateau in India, have volcanic origins.
