value stream mapping
Workflow analysis diagram
Value stream mapping is a technique for visualizing and analyzing the flow of materials and information required to deliver a product or service.
Originating in lean manufacturing, it diagrams each step from raw materials to customer delivery, identifying delays, waste, and inefficiencies.
Teams use it to spot bottlenecks and redesign processes: We did a value stream mapping exercise and found three redundant approval steps.
- processSteps toward a result
- flowUnbroken forward movement
- wasteUnwanted discarded material
- leanLacking fat; incline
- kaizenPhilosophy of incremental progress
