unpleasantness
Quality of discomfort
Unpleasantness is the quality of being disagreeable or uncomfortable: the unpleasantness of the smell, the unpleasantness of the situation.
It also refers to a disagreeable incident itself, often a conflict or quarrel: There was some unpleasantness between them at dinner.
The word can euphemistically downplay serious matters: that recent unpleasantness might gloss over anything from an argument to a war.
