A unitholder is someone who owns units in a pooled investment vehicle such as a mutual fund, exchange-traded fund, or real estate investment trust.
The term parallels shareholder but applies where ownership is divided into units rather than shares: Unitholders will receive quarterly distributions.
The distinction is largely legal and structural rather than practical.
