underground shows
Secret venue performances
Underground shows are performances—typically music, comedy, or theater—held outside mainstream commercial venues, often in basements, warehouses, or unlicensed spaces.
The term implies DIY organization, countercultural credibility, and audiences who discover events through word of mouth rather than advertising: We found out about underground shows through zines and flyers.
The appeal lies partly in intimacy and rawness, partly in being part of something not yet commodified.
