Strip away classification
To uncategorize is to remove something from a category it was previously assigned to, returning it to an unsorted or unclassified state: I uncategorized several blog posts that no longer fit their original tags.
The word appears mainly in software interfaces and content management, where users organize items into groups and occasionally need to undo that organization.
