A twin set is a matching pair of women's knitwear—a cardigan and a pullover sweater designed to be worn together, with the pullover underneath and the cardigan open or buttoned over it.
The style emerged in the mid-twentieth century and became associated with conservative, ladylike fashion: She wore a pearl necklace with her twin set.
