twenty-twenty vision

Optimal visual acuity

Twenty-twenty vision is normal visual acuity—the ability to see clearly at twenty feet what a person with standard eyesight sees at that distance.

The term comes from the Snellen eye chart used in vision tests.

Figuratively, twenty-twenty vision suggests perfect clarity or foresight: In hindsight, we all have twenty-twenty vision.

Also written 20/20 vision.
