trip line
Hidden release rope
A trip line is a cord or wire stretched low across a path, designed to be triggered when someone walks into it.
Trip lines may release a trap, sound an alarm, or detonate an explosive—common in military booby traps and perimeter security.
Hunters also use trip lines to trigger cameras or snares: We set up trip lines around the campsite.
