belted plaid
Wrapped tartan garment
A belted plaid is a large piece of tartan cloth worn as traditional Highland dress, wrapped around the body and secured at the waist with a belt.
The upper portion drapes over the shoulder.
It was the predecessor to the modern kilt, which developed when the lower and upper portions were separated.
Also called the great kilt or *féileadh mòr*.
