blank rounds
Noise without projectiles
Blank rounds are cartridges loaded with gunpowder but no bullet or projectile.
They produce the flash, bang, and recoil of live ammunition without firing anything lethal.
Blanks are used in military training, theatrical productions, starting pistols, and film shoots: The actors fired blank rounds during the battle scene.
Despite containing no projectile, blanks can still cause injury at close range from the explosive gases.
