topsiders

Boat footwear choice

Topsiders are leather boat shoes with non-marking rubber soles designed to grip wet decks.

The name comes from the Sperry Top-Sider brand, now genericized.

The shoes became preppy fashion staples beyond sailing: He wore khakis and topsiders to the country club.

Also spelled top-siders.
