topical jokes
Headlines become punchlines
Topical jokes are jokes that reference current events, recent news, or contemporary culture.
They rely on the audience's awareness of what's happening in the world right now: Late-night hosts open with topical jokes about the day's headlines.
The humor has a short shelf life—what kills today may need explaining next month.
