timpano

Large copper drum

Timpano is the singular form of timpani—a large kettledrum used in orchestras, with a copper bowl and a head that can be tuned to specific pitches.

Musicians and composers use timpano when referring to a single drum: The timpano enters on the downbeat.

In Italian cuisine, timpano is also a baked pasta dish encased in a crust, named for its drum-like shape.
