tiger moms

Strict achievement-focused mothers

Tiger moms are mothers who push their children relentlessly toward academic and extracurricular excellence, emphasizing discipline, practice, and achievement over play or emotional comfort.

The term gained currency from Amy Chua's 2011 memoir and is associated with East Asian parenting stereotypes, though it now describes any intensely demanding mother: Her tiger mom had her practicing violin three hours a day.
