thyroid hormones
Neck gland secretions
Thyroid hormones are chemical messengers produced by the thyroid gland that regulate metabolism, growth, and development throughout the body.
The two main forms are T3 (triiodothyronine) and T4 (thyroxine).
Too much causes hyperthyroidism—rapid heartbeat, weight loss, anxiety.
Too little causes hypothyroidism—fatigue, weight gain, sluggishness.
Her thyroid hormones were low, so the doctor prescribed synthetic T4.
