three wise men
Trio of sages
The three wise men are figures from the Christian nativity story who traveled from the East, following a star to visit the newborn Jesus and present gifts of gold, frankincense, and myrrh.
Also called the Magi or the three kings.
The phrase sometimes appears figuratively for any trio of advisors or experts: The committee's three wise men reviewed the proposal.
