threadjacking
Conversation off-track steering
Threadjacking is hijacking an online discussion by steering it away from its original topic.
Someone posts about garden tomatoes; a commenter launches into a rant about pesticide regulation.
The term is mildly pejorative—Sorry for the threadjack, but... acknowledges the intrusion.
Also appears as the verb threadjack: He threadjacked the conversation about recipes into a debate about veganism.
