thisness
Unique individual essence
Thisness is the quality of being this particular thing rather than any other—the irreducible individuality that makes something uniquely itself.
Philosophers use the term (translating Latin *haecceitas*) to capture what distinguishes one entity from all others sharing the same properties: The thisness of this moment can never be repeated.
The word gestures at something ineffable—the sheer fact of particular existence.
