third cousin
Great-great-grandparent's descendant
Third cousin describes a family relationship where two people share great-great-grandparents but no closer common ancestor.
The children of your parent's second cousins are your third cousins.
The numbering tracks how many generations back you must go to find the shared ancestor: first cousins share grandparents, second cousins share great-grandparents, and so on.
I didn't know we were third cousins until we compared family trees.
