thermal clothing
Heat-retaining winter wear
Thermal clothing is garments designed to retain body heat, typically worn as a base layer in cold conditions.
The fabric traps warm air close to the skin: I put on my thermals before heading out.
Long underwear, insulated leggings, and fitted undershirts are classic examples.
Often shortened to thermals.
