theatrical work

Drama for audiences

A theatrical work is a play, musical, opera, or other performance piece written for live stage presentation.

The term appears most often in legal and licensing contexts, where it distinguishes stage productions from film, television, or literary works: The composer retained rights to the theatrical work but licensed the film adaptation separately.
