terry

Absorbent towel material

Terry is a type of fabric with uncut loops on one or both sides, giving it a soft, absorbent texture.

It's the standard material for towels and bathrobes: terry cloth, a terry robe.

The loops create more surface area, which is why terry absorbs water so well. (Capitalized Terry is a given name.)
