terminal alkyne
Acetylene-type hydrocarbon derivative
A terminal alkyne is an alkyne—a hydrocarbon with a carbon-carbon triple bond—where the triple bond occurs at the end of the carbon chain, leaving one hydrogen attached directly to a triply bonded carbon.
This makes terminal alkynes slightly acidic compared to other hydrocarbons, as that hydrogen can be removed by strong bases.
Acetylene is the simplest terminal alkyne.
