telecoil
Magnetic audio pickup
A telecoil is a small coil inside a hearing aid that picks up electromagnetic signals from compatible telephones, public address systems, and hearing loops installed in theaters, churches, and other venues.
When switched to telecoil mode (often marked "T"), the hearing aid bypasses its microphone to receive sound directly, reducing background noise: The theater has a hearing loop, so I used my telecoil.
