teetertotter

Balanced beam ride

A teetertotter is a playground device where two children sit on opposite ends of a plank balanced on a central pivot, alternately rising and falling as they push off the ground.

Also called a seesaw.

The word captures the back-and-forth motion: The negotiations were a teetertotter of gains and setbacks.
