system restore
Digital time machine
System restore is a feature in Windows operating systems that returns a computer to a previous state, undoing recent changes that may have caused problems.
The system periodically creates restore points—snapshots of settings, drivers, and registry entries—that users can revert to when something goes wrong: After the update crashed my computer, I used system restore to fix it.
It doesn't affect personal files, only system configurations.
