swab tests
Diagnostic cotton scrapes
Swab tests are diagnostic procedures that collect samples by rubbing a cotton-tipped stick against a surface—typically the inside of the nose, throat, or cheek.
The term became ubiquitous during the COVID-19 pandemic: I got a swab test before traveling.
Swab tests detect infections, DNA, or other biological material for medical and forensic purposes.
