supervene
Occur as consequence
Supervene means to occur as something additional or unexpected, often interrupting or following what came before.
In philosophy, supervene has a technical sense: one set of properties supervenes on another when changes in the first require changes in the second.
A new crisis supervened before they could address the first.
Mental states are said to supervene on brain states.
