super PACs
Independent expenditure groups
Super PACs are political action committees that can raise and spend unlimited money to support or oppose candidates, provided they don't coordinate directly with campaigns.
Created after the 2010 Citizens United ruling, they've become major forces in American elections, often funded by wealthy donors and corporations: Super PACs spent over a billion dollars in the last election cycle.
