election cycle
Recurring voting season
An election cycle is the recurring period between elections for a particular office.
In U.S. presidential politics, the cycle spans four years; congressional cycles run two years.
The term often refers to the entire campaign season leading up to an election: The election cycle seems to start earlier every time.
Political donors, journalists, and strategists organize their work around these cycles.
