sugar pumpkin

Small baking squash

A sugar pumpkin is a small, sweet variety of pumpkin bred for eating rather than carving.

Also called pie pumpkins, they have denser, less stringy flesh than the large jack-o'-lantern types: I roasted a sugar pumpkin for the pie filling.

They typically weigh two to four pounds.
