studless

Lacking traction pins

Studless describes something lacking studs—projecting knobs, pins, or bolts that normally provide grip or reinforcement.

Most commonly applied to tires: studless snow tires use specialized rubber compounds and tread patterns for winter traction instead of metal studs.

Studless tires are quieter on dry pavement.

The term also appears in contexts like anchor chains or construction, where studs would normally be present.
