string on finger
Old-fashioned mnemonic device
A string on finger is a memory aid—a piece of string tied around a finger as a reminder to do something.
The practice is more often referenced than actually performed: I should tie a string on my finger so I don't forget.
The image evokes old-fashioned, low-tech attempts to jog one's memory before smartphones and digital calendars.
