downtown areas
Urban commercial hearts
The central business and commercial districts of cities or towns.
Downtown areas typically contain office buildings, retail shops, restaurants, and entertainment venues concentrated in a walkable core: Property values in downtown areas have rebounded since the pandemic.
The phrase emphasizes the geographic zone rather than the abstract concept of "downtown."
