strander
Rope-making machine
A strander is a person or thing that causes something to be stranded—left helpless or stuck in place.
The word appears most often in compound forms describing machines that twist fibers or wires together into strands: a cable strander, a rope strander.
Someone who leaves others high and dry might also be called a strander, though this use is rare.
