stone bruise
Sole impact trauma
A stone bruise is a deep, painful bruise on the sole of the foot, typically caused by stepping hard on a rock or other sharp object.
The injury affects the fat pad or tissue beneath the heel or ball of the foot: I picked up a stone bruise hiking yesterday and now every step hurts.
The term also applies to similar injuries in horses' hooves.
