stewing in one's juices
Fuming without outlet
To stew in one's juices is to suffer the consequences of one's actions or emotions without relief, especially when left alone to do so.
The image is of meat cooking slowly in its own liquid—you're trapped with your own anger, guilt, or frustration.
Often used when someone deliberately leaves another to experience discomfort: I'm going to let him stew in his juices for a while before I call back.
