stepgrandmother
Spouse's parent's wife
A stepgrandmother is the wife of one's biological grandfather who is not one's biological grandmother, or alternatively, the mother of one's stepparent.
The relationship arises through remarriage rather than blood.
Like other step-relations, the term describes a family connection created by marriage: My stepgrandmother joined the family when I was already a teenager.
The closeness of such relationships varies widely depending on when the marriage occurred and how much contact exists.
